Disability Online Discussion List

Friday, December 30, 2005

The Empire Justice Center, together with the Western New York Law Center, the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and the Center for Disability Rights is pleased to announce the creation of a new, collaborative discussion list for New York State based service providers assisting domestic violence survivors with disabilities or who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Please see below (or the attached announcement) for information about joining this unique discussion.

Disability Online Discussion List is a discussion group that allows New York State domestic violence program advocates, disability-related service organizations, and Deaf service providers the opportunity to exchange ideas and information, raise questions, network, and share resources and successes throughout the state on the topic of domestic violence experienced by women with disabilities or who are Deaf. The grant partners will also use this list to coordinate training and outreach activities, as well as the provision of technical assistance.
Discussion group membership is limited to New York state-based domestic violence programs, disability-related service organizations, and Deaf service providers. New members are encouraged to join and all applicants will be screened to determine if they qualify for membership. The grant partners will serve as administrators and monitors of this discussion group.

Members should be aware that this discussion group is not confidential and postings to the listserv will be received by a diverse group of service provider members across the state. Postings to the discussion list will not constitute legal advice or services. Upon admission to the discussion group, members will receive further listserv guidelines.

How You Can Help

Heather Grossman's ex-husband hired a man to kill her in 1997. He was not successful in his attempt to take her life, but the gunshot wound left Heather paralyzed from the neck down. Heather was just 31 years old with three young children. During the years since the incident, Heather's family has been doing everything they can to keep her alive and well, but expenses are high, and they need as much help as they can get.

Since Heather's new website launched on September 21 with the Paypal Donation Options, Heather's family has received donations from quite a few generous people. Please take a moment to see who has donated to Heather's family so far.
